White Texas Middle School teacher furloughed over racist comments: ‘I think my race is superior’ [Video]

An unidentified Texas college teacher is on administrative leave after a video showing extremely racist comments went viral online.

Going through ABC:

In the video, a teacher chats with students in a classroom. It’s unclear how the conversation started at Bohls Middle School, but the teacher was captured saying, “Deep down in my heart, I’m ethnocentric, which means I think my race is superior.”

Parents like Dr Shante Lyons said it was disheartening.

“I think the most disturbing piece is that it was a situation where the kids had experienced this in real time,” Lyons said.

The teacher was not identified with what led up to the conversation.

Parent Brian Hennington said this sort of thing should never happen in a school.

“There are other personal experiences that we’ve had as people of color that we’ve had individually, but seeing that in the classroom is just not acceptable,” Hennington said.

There were more subdued exchanges between a student and the teacher that are difficult to decipher. Below is the video of the conversation exchange in college:

Pflugerville ISD Superintendent Dr. Douglas Killian released the following statement regarding the incident:

“We are aware of an inappropriate conversation a Bohls Middle School teacher had with students this week during an advisory lesson. This interaction does not align with our core beliefs as a district. The video of the conversation includes statements that we find completely inappropriate. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave while Human Resources investigates.

“Pflugerville ISD and Bohls MS work together to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for our students. The counseling activity was inappropriate, inaccurate and unacceptable. This type of interaction will not be tolerated at PfISD schools.
