Chennai, July 26 (IANS): The Tamil Nadu government will appoint 800 doctors to provide psychological counseling to students under the “Manavar Manasu” program.
State School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said in a statement on Tuesday that the project would be officially launched by Chief Minister Deputy Stalin on Wednesday.
Poyyamozhi said the project would help students improve their mental health amid stresses related to teenage issues, study pressure, peer pressure and other issues related to behavioral changes in children. .
The school education department took such a step after two students, unable to bear the pressure of their studies, ended their lives recently.
The suicide of a Plus Two student at a private boarding school in Kallakurichi had sparked massive protests leading to the vandalism of the school and the burning of school buses as well as police vehicles, leading to major unrest in Kallakurichi and across the adjacent districts of Villupuram.
Meanwhile, the suicide of another student in Tiruvallur on Monday at a private boarding school has also sparked outrage in the region, with the child’s parents and relatives refusing to accept the body unless a proper investigation is carried out. not be conducted.
The school education minister also said that the Kallakurichi school which was vandalized will start online lessons from Wednesday.
He also said discussions are underway with adjacent schools to accommodate students from the vandalized Kallakurichi Shakthi boarding school.
Poyyamozhi also said that during the arson and riots at the school, several certificates of students and teachers were lost and the state government took steps to provide duplicate certificates to all those who have lost their certificates.
