LAS VEGAS (KLAS) –The Clark County Schools Board of Trustees voted to terminate the Superintendent. Dr Jesus Jara’s contract Thursday night.
CCDS directors voted 4-3 to remove the superintendent. Dr. Jesus Jara’s contract.
Trustees Danielle Ford, Irene Cepeda, Linda Cavazos and Lisa Guzman voted in favor.
Right after the vote, Jara read a statement and left the meeting. “I want to be very clear, my goal has never shied away from working every other day to improve the well-being and academic achievement of our students,” Jara said. “
In May 2021, the board voted to extend Dr Jara’s contract in the hopes that he would continue in his role until 2023.
The district still has to pay Dr Jara for his contract until 2023.
Jara was hired in 2018 and his annual salary was $ 320,000. He was hired for the job after a nationwide search.
Trustee Katie Williams did not support Jara’s ouster. She says if Dr Jara continues it will cost a lot of money.
“We’re going to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions on the basis of this one decision alone and all that money could have gone to our children, so it doesn’t,” Williams said.
Administrator Williams says there is no set plan on who will lead the district at this time, but that could be discussed at the November 18 council meeting.
