Purdue’s School of Management Launches Dean V. White Real Estate Finance Program


Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation makes largest monetary contribution in school history

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University School of Management officially announced the Dean V. White Real Estate Finance Program on Friday, April 22 at its 2022 Krannert Alumni Awards Celebration Dinner. The new program, named in memory of the late entrepreneur of Indiana in recognition of a $20.8 million pledge from the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation, was approved April 8 by Purdue administrators. The donation is the largest monetary contribution ever made to the School of Management.

The Dean V. White Real Estate Finance program will launch as an academic minor in the 2022-23 academic year and will be available to management students and students from other disciplines at the university.

Targeting the growing demand for talent within the rapidly changing real estate industry, the program will provide students with an academic experience that will equip them to plan, develop and manage successful commercial real estate projects. High-impact experiential learning opportunities — a key part of Purdue’s next moves: Transformative Education 2.0 — will connect students with real estate experts and prepare them for cutting-edge roles and careers in industry. Four new faculty positions are created with funding from the new program.

A portion of the donation will be used to create or renovate space in or on the Krannert Center for Executive Education and Research site to house the program.

Dean White was a World War II veteran, attended the University of Nebraska, and graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in King’s Point, New York. He spent most of his life in Crown Point, Indiana, where he developed a successful entrepreneurial career in advertising and real estate development, eventually becoming one of Indiana’s most prominent philanthropists and business leaders. successful business. He died in 2016.

Dean, his son Bruce and the White family have been generous contributors to Purdue for the past three decades. Their generosity includes a combined $30 million gift that helped transform the Union Club Hotel at Purdue, Autograph Collection, which, in addition to being a luxury boutique hotel on campus, is used as a laboratory for learning for Purdue hospitality students.

Bruce White is a Purdue graduate and former Purdue director who remains heavily involved in Purdue’s hospitality program through his company, White Lodging, based in northwest Indiana. In 2021, Purdue renamed its hospitality school White Lodging-JW Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management in honor of the company’s continued support and partnership.
