Parents react to school board as they plan to discuss Superintendent Jara’s job

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The Clark County School District Board of Directors is expected to discuss the employment of the superintendent, Dr. Jesus Jara, at its next meeting.

An agenda released Friday for an Oct. 28 meeting, says directors will discuss and “possible action on termination for convenience by the board of directors of the employment contract with Dr Jesus Jara.”

The agenda item was introduced by three members of the board although it did not indicate exactly who.

Board member Danielle Ford told 8 News Now that she was one of them. She said it was time to discuss Dr Jara’s role within the school district.

“More concerns than usual have come from parents and staff about his leadership and I think this warrants discussing whether he is the best candidate for superintendent of the 5th largest school district in the country. or not, ”Ford added.

CCDS parent Chirsopher Wanger echoed some of these concerns after asking for responses from the school district regarding the rise in violence in schools

“It was probably the best news in weeks,” Wagner said. “I contacted the school; the district on several occasions and I can’t even get the superintendent’s response, they wouldn’t even recognize the ongoing issues.

A parent said Jara’s eviction wouldn’t solve anything,

“There is a lot of blame, finger pointing instead of coming together and letting him finish his term,” Sonia Petkewich said.

Dr Jara was first appointed Clark County School District Superintendent in June 2018.

Dr Jara was asked about the future of his work at a press conference on Friday.

“I am employed by the elected Clark County School Board, but I work every day for the children and educators I work with. This is my main goal, it will remain my main goal until I am told otherwise, ”said Dr Jara.

In May 2021, the board voted to extend Dr Jara’s contract in the hopes that he will continue in his role until 2023.
