Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Council (BOSE) said on Sunday that the history and civics of the 2020 edition for class 7 published by Delhi-based JAY CEE PUBLICATIONS had hurt people’s feelings.
The Council therefore ordered all schools affiliated with either the Central Council for Secondary Education (CBSE) or JKBOSE to immediately withdraw the book.
A JKBOSE department official said: “All UT schools in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh affiliated with either CBSE, JKBOSE or any other council in the country are urged not to use the ‘History and Civic Education’ manual. “, 2020 edition for the 7th class published by JAY CEE PUBLICATIONS Pvt Ltd New Delhi.”
“If the textbook is used in a school, it should be removed immediately; otherwise, strict action, as warranted by the provisions of the law, will be taken, ”the official said.
Council officials said the Council condemned the act of publishing certain documents which hurt the feelings of the people.
“The publisher is urged to immediately remove this manual from all schools wherever it has been distributed, although the publisher regretted the error made by them.”
Meanwhile, the Srinagar district administration requested that an initial information report be filed against the publishing house alongside a local distributor here on Sunday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Syed Haneef Balkhi, in a statement, subject to “Publication of Sensitive Content in Class 7 SSt Book – FIR Registration thereof, to Chief Superintendent of police ”, Srinagar reads“… Chief Education Officer, Srinagar empties his communication No CEO / Sgr / IMW / 11499-11500 / 21 Dated 05.12.2021 informed this office that a Delhi-based publishing house, JAY CEE Publications (P.) Ltd, AIMO House Jhandewalan Extension, New Delhi has published a social studies book for the 7th class in which content of a sensitive nature has been published and is circulating. Said book is stored and distributed by Paradise Book Shop, Parraypora Srinagar.
“It is requested to take severe measures against the said publishing house as well as the distributor of the book in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
Objecting to the illustration, voices were heard from various sides calling for a boycott of the publishing house for hurting the feelings of Muslims.
