Jacksonville State breaks record for enrollment and course credit hours


Jacksonville State University has set a new enrollment record for the fall 2022 semester, according to a college press release.

The university announced an enrollment of 9,633 students, surpassing the 9,540 mark set in fall 2021.

Additionally, according to the statement, JSU students enrolled in a record number of course credit hours for the semester, 111,568, surpassing the mark of 108,383 also set in fall 2021. This was credited to a flat-rate tuition plan, according to the release. , which encourages students to schedule 15 hours per semester.

“This is an exciting time in the history of Jacksonville State University,” said President Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. “We surpassed 9,600 students for the first time while maintaining our commitment to helping each student find their purpose and passion and translate that into a rewarding career.

Dr. Emily Messer, vice president of enrollment advancement and management, said the school has also hit record highs in freshman, undergraduate, dual and international enrollment, and that it would have its highest on-campus housing occupancy in more than five years after receiving a record. number of housing applications.

Since 2017, the university has added nine degree options (including applied forensics, respiratory therapy, and film studies) and 11 certificate options. It is set to add next year, pending accreditation, its third doctoral program, a doctorate of education in instructional leadership, on the heels of the addition of a doctoral program in nursing practice.
