An Illinois high school resource officer was arrested after he was filmed throwing a student to the ground in what cops called an “unsolicited assault,” according to reports.
Pixelated video from Proviso West High School in Hillside shows a school resources manager confronting a student in front of the class. The two exchanges jostle before the school staff slam the student on several desks before knocking him down.
âI am extremely disappointed, no, I am upset by what happened today. No adult should ever get a hold of a child like this, especially not in a school setting, âsaid the superintendent. Dr James Henderson said in a written statement, according to ABC7 Chicago.
Immediately after the incident, Henderson said he told his staff to contact police, who arrested the man. He said he would not be allowed to return to the school grounds.
The school district described the man as a school resources officer in its statement, but Hillside Police told the outlet that he was not a registered law enforcement officer in the state.
A person of interest remains in custody, the Hillside Police Chief said.
