New Delhi: Continuing their strike to demand justice for deceased optometry student Abhishek Malviya, paramedic students from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) demanded threats from an institute official when they sought accommodation facilities.

The students claimed that the superintendent of the hostel, Dr Sandip Aggarwal, threatened them saying “Course chor do ya mar jao, jo marzi karo, nahi mil skta hostel tumhe”. (Leave your class or die, do what you want, you won’t have a hostel). The Optometry Students Association (OSA) of Delhi AIIMS alleged the threat in a press release issued by them.

The AIIMS administration has created discrimination among UG students (MBBS and paramedics) and gives preference to MBBS students only, allegedly striking optometry students.

Claim for compensation

“We have a few simple requests like accommodation facilities for freshmen, non-discrimination by AIIMS administration officials. Nursing students get hostel accommodation from day one. But no hostel accommodation is provided for paramedic students of optometry, MTR Radiograpgy or Operation Theatre,” one notable optometry student told this reporter on condition of anonymity.

The striking students also demanded monetary compensation from the administration for Abhishek Malviya’s family.

Meanwhile, Dr Sandip Agarwal declined to speak to Times Network citing his busy schedule. We also posted a WhatsApp message asking for her version of the students’ allegations. Her version will be updated in the story as she responds.
