Proposed design of the next golf club at Dwarka

A new 18-hole championship golf course being built by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at Dwarka in West Delhi is said to be the longest in the country at 7,366 metres. The golf course will feature a sprawling clubhouse with state-of-the-art equipment.

Development of the golf course is well advanced after being stalled for various clearances for over a decade and is expected to be finally completed by December 2022. The clubhouse will be ready in 2023. The project area spans 158 acres, including 8.7 acres for the clubhouse which has a budget of Rs 45.5 crores. According to the development authority, 26% of the work has been completed.

The club house will have facilities such as a steam room, sauna and massage rooms, gymnasium, restaurants, bar, cafe, delicatessen, daycare and play area, doctor’s room, a conference room and a multipurpose room. A swimming pool and a small children’s pool are also part of the plans.

Near the clubhouse, DDA also proposes to build a golf academy and the space for the construction of the academy has been reserved in the master plan of the project. There will also be a two-level open-air driving range adjacent to the clubhouse, featuring a 6-hole, par-3 course. The driving range building will include a separate dining area and snack counters, fitness center, an audiovisual room and lounge, among other facilities.

Like other sports facilities created by DDA over the past decade, there will be no lifetime membership offered at Dwarka Golf Course. Only pay and play facilities will be allowed, according to a DDA official. However, quarterly, semi-annual and annual membership could be introduced, he added.

In its budget for the financial year 2022-23, DDA has allocated Rs 546 crore for the construction of new sports facilities. These include the Dwarka Golf Course and new sports complexes in Dwarka and Rohini.
