OGDEN – Before you sit down to that 3,000-calorie meal on Thanksgiving, donate to those in need while taking a healthy walk.

Ogden Regional Medical Center is hosting its 37th annual Thanksgiving Charity Run/Walk at 9 a.m. next Thursday. Registration fees for the event consist of any donation of non-perishable food or monetary contributions. Donations will support the Ogden Rescue Mission, Lantern House, Catholic Community Services and the Salvation Army in Ogden. If you are making a cash donation, bring a check payable to the Newman Center.

“The significance of this event has never been greater than it is right now,” said Sister Stephanie Mongeon, former director of mission and community relations at Ogden Regional. “Our Thanksgiving Run and Walk was created to help those in need in our community. We have so many people who need help. By supporting these worthy organizations, we are able to reach out to others.

Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the hospital, 5475 S. 500 East (Adams Avenue). The 5 mile run or 2 mile walk will start in the west parking lot at 9:00 am.

“It’s the greatest token of gratitude for our many blessings,” Mongeon said. “We are experiencing the true meaning of Thanksgiving. Our reward is a good feeling knowing we’ve helped make a difference in someone’s life, and as a bonus, we get to work on some of that big dinner we need to have later in the day.

A Mass of Thanksgiving will also be celebrated at 7 a.m. at the Hospital Education Center. The public is welcome.
