9-year-old boy beaten while leaving DC school dies nearly 6 months later

Kaidyn Green, a student at Kipp Honor Academy, died at home on June 2.

A 9-year-old who was hit by a car as he left a DC school last December has died.

Kaidyn Green, a student at Kipp Honor Academy, died at home on June 2, shortly after returning home from months of hospitalization and intensive rehabilitation, according to a statement from the family attorney.

Upon returning home, he was greeted by family and friends at a welcome party, the statement said.

Kaidyn Green was struck in the 3300 block of Wheeler Road Southeast as he was leaving school on December 10.

In mid-December, his mother said he underwent a successful bronchoscopy to help heal his lungs, which had been badly damaged in the accident.

Kaidyn’s injuries resulted in permanent paralysis from the neck down, according to the Keith Watters & Associates statement.

“The family would like to express their gratitude to all the doctors and medical staff who provided Kaidyn with exceptional care. He was an exceptionally good child who always smiled despite his critical state of health. The family would like to thank everyone who gave them their love and support during this very painful and difficult time,” the statement read.
